As our kids are getting a little older and starting to out-grow the stroller, our city trips have gotten a bit more challenging, as they get tired when walking long distances. For our two-year-old, using our TushBaby carrier (discount code: SHAINAREHMANN) has been helpful! The TushBaby is a hip baby carrier (also known as a hip seat carrier or hip seat), which offers several benefits for both parents and toddlers.
Here are three examples of benefits carrying your toddler on your hip.
Convenience and Mobility: Carrying a toddler on a hip baby carrier provides a convenient and mobile solution for parents. The design allows for easy access to the child, making it suitable for short trips or situations where you need to navigate through crowds or move quickly. The hands-free aspect of using a hip carrier allows parents to perform various tasks while keeping their child close.
Bonding and Comfort: The close proximity of the toddler to the parent in a hip baby carrier fosters a strong sense of bonding. Toddlers often find comfort in being close to their parent’s body, feeling the warmth and heartbeat. This physical closeness can contribute to a sense of security and emotional well-being for the child.
Reduced Strain on Parent’s Back: Hip baby carriers are designed to distribute the toddler’s weight more evenly across the parent’s hip and back, reducing the strain on the back and shoulders. This ergonomic design can make carrying a toddler more comfortable for longer periods, making it easier for parents to engage in various activities without experiencing excessive physical discomfort.
Specific characteristics of the TushBaby Carrier include the following:
Age Limit: TushBaby can be used for kids up to 3 years old.
Weight Capacity: The weight capacity for a child to be worn on the TushBaby is 45lbs.
Breastfeeding Support: From 0-6 months, TushBaby can be used as breastfeeding support. Simply adjust the seat portion to what feels comfortable and position the baby to nurse.
Extender for TushBaby: The TushBaby is recommended for those with a 43 inch waist or smaller. The waistband is 46 inches long, but you lose a few inches where the two waistbands overlap to secure the Velcro. There is an extension belt that is sold separately that can add up to 23 inches to the waistband.
Comfort: Prior to ordering a TushBaby, I had ordered a cheaper alternative on Amazon. After using them both, I can say comfort-wise, TushBaby feels more natural to hold. It is recommened to rotate wearing TushBaby on each hip and take breaks after prolong use. I plan to purchase the Snug, an additional product from the brand to convert it into a hands-free soft carrier that can be used for children up to 3 years old
Our Experience with TushBaby
All in all, it is helpful to our hips and arms to be able to use this tool. Our kids are on the older end of the age (4 and 2-years-old) usage for this but within the weight capacity (they are both in the 30 lb range), and we feel that it does make an impact.
It is particularly helpful when one of them can’t sit in the stroller for whatever reason (lack of stroller-friendly paths or if the older child is in the stroller). Additionally, as we have welcomed a new baby into our family recently and our toddler has adjusted to being a new middle child, we feel that it provides her comfort to be worn on the TushBaby.
